A shelter for light and unity
A group of neighbours in Queensland came together over the year to explore the concept of ‘a Shelter’ through the medium of clay and shadow puppetry. Inspired by the writings of Abdu’l-Baha on suffering, the group created clay lamps to light their planned shadow puppetry show and explored the symbolism of clay needing the heat of the kiln in order to become a strong and durable vessel to carry light. The group discussed how suffering can be a source of insight and strength and allow individuals to be a light and shelter for others.
On the night of the Ascension of Abdu’l-Baha the neighbours gathered together to commemorate the life and passing of Abdu’l-Baha. Using the clay lamps as a source of light, they created a shadow puppet show about how unity can be built in their neighbourhood.
